Teddington Lock Saturday 1 August to Monday 31 August 2020 From Saturday 1 August, assisted passage through Teddington Lock will be available from 7am – 9pm. We will only be offering tidal transits between these times. Please see the table below if you are planning a journey on the tideway. As the self-service facility is not possible at Teddington, transit will not be possible through the night and from 9pm until 7am, the lock will be closed to traffic.

What’s happening: The government has put in to place restrictions across the whole of the United Kingdom to slow the spread of Coronavirus, protect the NHS and save lives. These restrictions to our locks aim to minimise contact, and stop all non-essential travel to slow the spread of the virus.

Low flows and high temperatures - impacts on boating Low flows - what to be aware of Water levels in the non-tidal River Thames may be shallower than you are used to in some places, due to the current period of prolonged dry weather. With this in mind we are asking boaters take extra care, especially immediately downstream of locks where the natural gradient of the river means levels are always slightly lower than elsewhere in the reach.

Directions for navigation and general information during this event:
The River Thames between Platts Eyot and Garrick’s Ait will be closed to all traffic other than authorised boats from 10:30am and 2:30pm on Tuesday 12 June 2018. Periods within these times are available for traffic to pass through.
Be aware a large scale exercise with our partners working together on a 100 year flood exercise, there will be a number of emergency vessels on site and air traffic.
Casual mooring to the towpath or anchoring anywhere between Platts Eyot and Garrick’s Ait is not allowed.
Mooring at all authorised public, commercial or domestic moorings are allowed apart from EA Hurst Park 24 Hour Moorings, provided that all directions given by our Waterways Officers are followed.
Those in charge of all boats must observe any directions given by our Waterways Officers
Those in charge of boats should be aware that they are responsible for avoiding collision and should use all available means appropriate to the circumstances and conditions to decide if there is a risk of immediate danger and avoid it.
N.B. All directions as to river left and river right are given looking upstream.

Chertsey Lock is Closed
We are advising River Thames boaters that Chertsey Lock in Surrey is currently closed due to a serious fault with one of the lock gates.
Engineers are currently on site and working hard to fix the problem as soon as possible, but due to the nature of the fault, it may be another 48 hours before the lock is brought back into service.
Two out four large 32mm bolts from the metal plate that secures one of upstream or ‘head’ gates in position have sheared off. As a result, the gate has dropped out of alignment, putting additional stress on the remaining two bolts. Continued use is both unsafe, and increases the risk of further damage. We have therefore been left with no option but to close the lock.
The repair we are carrying out requires the broken bolts to be drilled out of their concrete housing, and replacements fitted and secured with resin. We are working as fast as we can to resolve this use as a matter of urgency, but the drying time for the resin is around 30 hours. There is no alternative repair method.
We are assessing the possibility for safely operating the lock while the resin in drying, but this may not be possible. If it is not possible, the lock will remain closed to boat traffic. It is anticipated that the lock will become fully operable on Wednesday 13th September. Boater’s safety is our paramount concern.
We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this unavoidable breakdown causes, but would like to reassure boaters that we are doing all we can to minimise disruption and return the lock to operation as soon as it is safe to do so.
